4.2.4.4 Key Question W-3 What Effect Will the Project Have on
Faunal Health?
Potential Effect Pathways
The potential impacts of the project on faunal health were evaluated through the
following two linkages:
changes in air quality and faunal health; and
changes in water quality and faunal health.
Air Quality
Uptake of contaminants via inhalation is typically considered to be minor for
fauna compared to uptake of contaminants through the food chain. Amphibians
can also be exposed to airborne chemicals through the skin. Contaminant
concentrations in the air are predicted to be negligible to low and temporary
during construction as a result of vehicle emissions (Volume C, Section 3.3). Air
quality is not considered an issue.
Water Quality
Contamination of watercourses is not predicted to occur due to construction and
operation of the slurry pipeline (Volume C, Section 3.9). Mitigations, including
a spill contingency plan, are outlined in the environmental management plan and
address accidental contamination. Water quality is not considered an issue.
