Once it reaches full capacity, Ambatovy expects to export approximately 275,000 tonnes of refined nickel, refined cobalt, and ammonium sulphate fertilizer every year.
Imported commodities required for this production will total approximately 3.5 million tonnes, or nearly 13 times greater than the amount of finished goods to be exported. This huge volume required a substantial upgrading of the Port of Toamasina.
Ambatovy’s investments include:
A substantial extension of Pier B (Mole B, in French) that included a new fuel terminal.
State-of-the-art equipment for handling the import of bulk raw materials such as limestone, coal, sulphur, and ammonia.
As part of its design and construction efforts, Ambatovy worked in close collaboration with the local port authority and other businesses, all of which will continue to benefit significantly from these upgrades.
