The Ambatovy project is a world-class, large-tonnage, long-life mining venture in Madagascar that is positioned to be the world’s biggest lateritic nickel mine by 2013-2014. Developed under Madagascar’s Large Mining Investment Act, the Ambatovy project is the country’s largest capital project to date. Construction is progressing well. Mechanical completion is expected in late 2010 with initial production to begin shortly thereafter.

Partners
The Ambatovy project is a joint-venture partnership between the project operator, Sherritt International Corporation, which owns 40%, Sumitomo Corporation and Korea Resources Corporation, which each have a 27.5% stake, and the project’s engineering contractor, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., whose interest is 5%.
